Art & Copy Film

March 17, 2010

More than a year after it’s Sundance screening, Art & Copy is making it’s way back to Dallas —yea! (Art & Copy was one of the films featured on last year’s AFI film festival — we blogged about it last summer)

The Dallas Ad League will have a screening of it on Tuesday, March 30 2010, 7:00pm – 10:00pm at The Studio Movie Grill, on Royal and 75. Below is an excerpt taken from the Art & Copy website.

Art & Copy is a powerful new film about advertising and inspiration. Directed by Doug Pray (SURFWISE, SCRATCH, HYPE!), it reveals the work and wisdom of some of the most influential advertising creatives of our time — people who’ve profoundly impacted our culture, yet are virtually unknown outside their industry. Exploding forth from advertising’s “creative revolution” of the 1960s, these artists and writers all brought a surprisingly rebellious spirit to their work in a business more often associated with mediocrity or manipulation: George Lois, Mary Wells, Dan Wieden, Lee Clow, Hal Riney and others featured in ART & COPY were responsible for “Just Do It,” “I Love NY,” “Where’s the Beef?,” “Got Milk,” “Think Different,” and brilliant campaigns for everything from cars to presidents. They managed to grab the attention of millions and truly move them. Visually interwoven with their stories, TV satellites are launched, billboards are erected, and the social and cultural impact of their ads are brought to light in this dynamic exploration of art, commerce, and human emotion.

Naughty and nice

This is one of the latest projects I have designed. We (direct marketing agency) were asked to create a greeting card which would be sent out to U-verse members and ask them to sign up for the Showtime premium package. Our client wanted a seasonal (Winter Holiday) themed card. This, along with Showtime’s more adult programming, was the basis for our design and execution.

Best use of music in a commercial.

I’m not sure if this ad won any awards, but as far as I’m concerned, this is one of the best uses of music in a commercial. I can’t remeber when this ad came out, but I remember it well and remember what company made it — AIWA.  Isn’t that what ads are for?
